How to code from your phone with AI coding agents in 2026

Three ways to keep coding from your phone with AI agents in 2026: cloud agents, SSH terminal apps and phone remotes for your laptop, compared.

Short answer: you should not type code on a phone, but you can direct AI agents from one. There are three ways: cloud agents that work on a copy of your repository in the cloud, SSH or terminal apps that reach a machine you own, and phone remotes that control agents running on your own laptop, so you can approve a command, answer a question or read a diff from anywhere.

AI coding agents changed what "coding from your phone" means. The work is no longer typing; it is deciding, approving and reviewing, and a phone is good at that.

Disclosure: we build Zokie, which has a phone remote. We cover the other options fairly.

Option 1: cloud agents

Several AI coding tools offer agents that run in the cloud against your Git repository. You describe a task from a browser or phone, the agent works on a cloud machine and opens a pull request.

Good for: small, well-defined tasks when your laptop is off. Watch out for: your code and secrets live on someone else's machine while the agent works, and setting up the cloud environment to match your laptop takes effort.

Option 2: SSH and terminal apps

A terminal app on your phone can connect to a computer you own, where you run Claude Code or another agent in a terminal session that stays alive between connections.

Good for: developers who live in the terminal already. Watch out for: typing on a phone keyboard, reading long diffs on a small screen, and keeping the connection secure.

Option 3: a phone remote for your laptop

The agent runs on your own laptop, with your files, tools and subscriptions. Your phone is the remote control: you see what each agent is doing, approve commands, answer its questions and read the diff.

Good for: keeping work moving while you commute, sit in a meeting or step away, without moving your code anywhere. Watch out for: the laptop has to be on; when you close the lid, the sessions pause.

What you can realistically do from a phone

  • Approve or refuse a command an agent wants to run.
  • Answer an agent's question so it can keep going.
  • Read a diff and send it back with a short note.
  • Start a new task from a bug report or an idea.
  • Check which tasks are done and which need you.

What you should not do from a phone: large reviews of risky changes, anything touching payments or security, and merging without reading the change.

How Zokie does it

On Zokie Pro, the Zokie App for iOS and Android is a remote for the sessions running on your laptop. Approve a command, answer a question, read the diff or start a task from the train. Your code never leaves your machine, and when you close the lid, the sessions pause. See the plans or get an invite.

FAQ

Can I use Claude Code on my phone?

Not by typing in a phone terminal comfortably. You can reach a session on your own computer through an SSH app, use a cloud option, or use a phone remote such as the Zokie App to control sessions running on your laptop.

Is it safe to approve agent commands from my phone?

Yes, if you can see the exact command and the task it belongs to. Keep risky commands such as deploys and deletes for a proper review at your desk.

Do I need to leave my laptop on?

For a phone remote, yes: the agents run on your laptop. Cloud agents keep working with your laptop off, but your code runs on their machines.

What is the best way to review code on a phone?

Read small diffs, one task at a time. Send large or risky changes back with a note, or leave them for your desk.
